There is a new No. 1 T20I batter in the world, and it’s an Indian… wait for it. Yes, you got that right, it is Suryakumar Yadav. The middle-order batsman, who has been India’s biggest positive and in the form of his entire life till now, Suryakumar left behind New Zealand’s Devon Conway and pipped Pakistan wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan to claim the top spot in the ICC men’s ranking for T20 batsmen. With 863 points, Suryakumar sits pretty atop the table, with Virat Kohli being the only other Indian in the top 10 with a total of 638 points.

The rise of Suryakumar Yadav is complete with the India star completing his remarkable recent rise to claim the top spot on the latest MRF Tyres ICC Men’s Player Rankings for T20I batters. Yadav overtakes Pakistan veteran Mohammad Rizwan on the back of his impressive start to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, where the 32-year-old has registered back-to-back half-centuries against the Netherlands and South Africa.
The India dynamo has been a revelation since making his international T20I debut in March last year and his latest feat to take the top ranking from Rizwan is a reward for his excellent recent run of form.
Suryakumar’s feat happens to come the same day his India teammate Kohli shattered a huge world record by becoming the all-time leading run-getter in T20 World Cups, surpassing Sri Lanka great Mahela Jayawardene’s tally of 1016 runs from 31 matches. Kohli, who was on 10001 runs prior to the start of the match, created history in the seventh over of the innings and in six matches fewer than Jayawardene.

Pakistan Mohammad Rizwanwith 842 ratings is occupies the second spot in the rankings. The top ten is rounded off by New Zealand in third, Pakistan Babar Azam in fourth, South Africa’s Aiden Markram in fifth, England’s Dawid Malan in the sixth, New Zealand Glenn Phillips in seventh, South Africa’s Rilee Rossouw in eight, Australia’s Aaron Finch on ninth and India Virat Kohli on the tenth spot.
