Arshdeep celebrate as he removed Pak skipper Babar Azam

Before this, Arshdeep bowled a dream first spell and Pandya displayed his true worth in the back-10 as India restricted Pakistan to a manageable 159 for eight.

If Arshdeep (3/32) removed skipper Babar Azam (0) and Rizwan (4) in his first two overs to set the tone, Pandya (3/30) rekindled memories of his Asia Cup heroics by consistently hitting hard lengths at a brisk pace, letting the pitch do the rest.

India vs Pakistan: Iftikhar Ahmed scored an important half-century

Iftikhar Ahmed(51) was the only batter who looked like taking the attack back to India as the spinners Ashwin and Axar (1/21) did struggle a bit it was designated sixth bowler Pandya who finished his full quota. Shan Masood (52) struck a half-century but never looked comfortable during his 42-balls knock.

India was down and out at 31 for 4, they were behind the 8-ball game big time. Then came the stand which gave India hope. Pandya and Kohli batted wonderfully. The two took their time initially, and did not panic even when the run rate needed went above 11, they continued to play their own way and when the time came, the two stepped on the gas. It was the 12th over which shifted the momentum towards India where they got 20. From there on, India always managed to keep the run rate needed intact. It came down to around 50 needed in the last three and then it was the Kohli show. It was he who started finding the boundaries and they got it down to 16 from the last over. Pandya was dismissed on the very first ball but Kohli stayed there till the end and ensured his side got over the line.

India vs Pakistan: Virat’s word!

Kohli 29
Kohli played a fantastic knock of 82(53)

“The calculation was simple. Nawaz had gone over to the bowl, so if I could take Haris down, they would panic. From 28 in 8, it came down to 16 to 6. It’s just instinctively I saw it and told myself to stay still. The one at long-on was unexpected, it was a back-of-a-length slower ball. and the next one, I just swung my bat at it and it swung over my fine leg. Standing here I just feel like it was meant to be.”

India vs Pakistan: Captain Rohit’s word!

“I was in the dressing room. I don’t have any words left. You got to expect something like this in a game like this. We wanted to stay in the game for as long as possible. That crucial partnership was a game-changing moment for us. Those two guys are experienced. Staying calm and taking the game deep was very critical. Good for our confidence. Always crucial to get off the mark like this. We were in no position to win this. It has to be Virat’s best knock playing for India.”
